What Financial Legacy Will You Leave?

June 30, 2009 : Posted by: admin : Category: Money in the News, Personal Finances : Comments (2) : Add Comment

There is so much in the media about the late Michael Jackson and his financial troubles as well as  the late Ed McMahon had financial troubles that we were aware of. It made me start thinking, what is the financial legacy you will leave?  Think about it based on today, would you happy with the financial legacy you are leaving?

When I think about financial legacy that includes teaching money management skills to our twins, knowing the advantages and disadvantages of credit, the importance of saving and not overspending and much more. Maybe you strictly think of legacy as what you plan on leaving. Take a look at your picture right now – would you be leaving a legacy or financial turmoil and stress?

If you would be leaving financial turmoil and stress, it is time for you to take control. You need to take control of your finances and make better decisions.  The decisions you make today, including financial decisions directly affect tomorrow. Choose to be financially stress free.

Make the choice to leave a legacy you can be proud of.

Encourage your Son or Daughter to begin the Money Talk before “I Do”

June 29, 2009 : Posted by: admin : Category: Engaged Couples, Money in Marriage, Personal Finances : Comments (0) : Add Comment

I am sooo thrilled at all the articles that are coming out regarding money and  marriage. It is in the best interest of the bride and groom to talk about money prior to walking down the aisle. If they have not talked about it in depth, at least beginning the discussion will give them some idea what they are in for.

When people are preparing to wed, they are sooo caught up in the planning and excitement of a wedding, they forget about “The Marriage”. I encourage you today to take that son or daughter, niece or nephew aside and say it is important that you begin talking about money with your soon to be spouse.

Look at this recent article: Get fiscal before you wed

Money is the top reason for divorce and there is no reason that your marriage should become a divorce statistic. Take the time and learn the important skill of communicating about money which can sustain your marriage. If it is hard for you to communicate verbally in the beginning, then write your soon-to-be spouse a love note and begin sharing with him or her about your finances.

The plus side to this is that you are beginning to share and be honest in an area that can cause division, separation and eventually divorce. Take the step today to begin the Money Talk.

If you are a parent, relative or co-worker and know a bride or groom preparing to walk down the aisle, encourage them to begin talking about money beyond the wedding day. Marriage should be for a lifetime.

Marriage with Money Baggage

June 29, 2009 : Posted by: admin : Category: Money in Marriage, Personal Finances : Comments (0) : Add Comment

Here comes the bride, all dressed in white.  Behind her comes a building that represents her college debt that the groom does not know about.  Continue seeing her in your mind because behind that building is a car that represents her car payment. Did you know that she had a car loan that she is actually upside down on? Hmmm it’s not to late to start the “Money Talk.”

As you continue you seeing your bride trying to make it down the aisle, behind the car are several department stores where she has charged various items on her credit card. After dragging this baggage down the aisle for 25 minutes, she stands at the altar waiting to take her vows and commit to you.

If you did not realize this until now, both of you will bring money baggage and financial mistakes into your marriage. If you choose not to discuss them until after the honeymoon, it could cause for uneasiness from the start. You might want to read about Hidden Debt Revealed after the Honeymoon.

Money baggage can cause stress, division and personalities to change when the baggage gets revealed. If you are reading this and you are the bride or groom, picture your soon-to-be wife or husband standing there with all those items behind them at the altar.

Begin the Money Talk today. You can get your copy of Money Talk Before The Commitment Walk and The Debt Stops At Altar via the products page.

Money Problems Send Marriage South

June 29, 2009 : Posted by: admin : Category: Money in Marriage, Money in the News, Personal Finances : Comments (0) : Add Comment

As I was reading through an article this morning on CNN about 9 ways to Keep Your Marriage Healthy, it shared how 40% of couples admitted to lying to their spouse about a purchase according to a 2004 poll. My first thought is your spouse should be your best friend that you can talk to about anything including finances.

What is the purpose of lying about spending? If you spent the money, then you spent the money. Own up to it you are an adult.  Deal with the consequences. You made the purchase and accept the consequences.

A word of caution, if you find it necessary to lie and have financial secrets you are the one that is leading your marriage to go south. Is it worth it.

Get to the ROOT cause of Financial Challenges

June 26, 2009 : Posted by: admin : Category: Money in the News, Personal Finances : Comments (0) : Add Comment

Today after seeing so much on the news and Twitter last night about Michael Jackson’s death, I want to encourage every person struggling with finances to get to the root cause. Clearly, Michael Jackson was a person in pain and believed he didn’t have anyone he could turn to. That truly saddens me.

Do you know what financial pain looks like? Look  in the mirror. Or look at that co-worker that has been talking to you about financial challenges.  Financial pain can be your niece, nephew, brother, sister, co-worker, your boss or someone else you know. The stress of finances leads to health issues resulting in pain, broken relationships and even a decline in job performance.

I know firsthand about not wanting anyone to know that you are struggling financially. It is a false security because while you are not saying anything, you are creating more financial problems for yourself. Sooner or later you will have to accept it and reach out for help. So why not take this step today. Tomorrow is not promised to you. You deserve to live without financial stress. Do not doubt that for a second.

Get to the root cause of financial challenges today. If you would like to work with a financial advocate/advisor, contact me. I am opening it up for the end of this month and July and accepting 7 new clients. GO  to the products page and choose consulting – my fees are reasonable.

Let’s get to the root cause together and develop a plan for your financial success.

I have to tell you when I read stories like this, I think to myself negotiate your own settlements. Sure you may be nervous at first because you have never done it. But if you paid in to a company such as this to negotiate for you, the money could be tied up for a while and no negotiations occurring on your behalf.

If you are in the process of researching companies such as this, do a thorough job. Read the story below:  http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/bus/stories/062409dnbusdebtrelief.3bc5f20.html

Wedding Gift: 1 hr with Financial Planner or Hours of Financial Education

June 20, 2009 : Posted by: admin : Category: Engaged Couples, Money in Marriage, Personal Finances : Comment (1) : Add Comment

Friday night I was doing my usual research on the internet to see what pertained to money and marriage. I discovered this story on CNN Money where this mom writes in and asks if she can be recommended to an online site regarding finances for her son who just became engaged. She wanted feedback on giving as a gift, 1 hour with a financial planner.
If you are a parent, grandparent, brother or sister and you know someone that is getting married, Money Talk Before The Commitment Walk and The Debt Stops At The Altar is a comprehensive financial education program designed to be used in the privacy of the couples own home. Purchase it through our products page.

Of course this made me perk right up since I have always thought of Money Talk Before The Commitment Walk and The Debt Stops At The Altar as a financial education program that can be completed while engaged and after the wedding. It is not a one-time use program but the lifetime of the marriage.

It is wedding season, give the gift that can be used throughout the lifetime of a marriage. This will provide couples with skills to have those tough money talks and prepare them to make informed decisions and not choices based on emotion.

Today I had the honor of being interviewed by Vernon Harleston of The High Road show on Blogtalk Radio along with Mary Chatman, President/CEO of Creations of Love. Let me share that this was so much fun it was over before we knew it.

I don’t want to give too much away but let me share something with you… Mary and I did not talk ahead of time we went on the show knowing that our messages would mesh. That is what you call passionate about what you are doing. Marriages, Romance, Money!

The listeners were saying how much this topic is needed, even now. There’s always time for Romance and Finance talk for the benefit of marriages. What we do in our marriages is mirrored by our children when they become young adults and get married.

The time literally got away from us because we were having so much fun and imparting information that Vernon invited us back to continue the conversation at a later date. Before you go, click the link and listen in…. do not hesitate to leave a comment on the blog
